About The Fund

The Operator Fund is a bet on startup dynamism, led by Adam Spector and Hari Raghavan.

Early stage companies (Pre-Seed / Seed) building scalable solutions to problems that matter, by founders who know their space inside-and-out. We’re sector and industry agnostic.
  • Many of them are current or prospective customers of AbstractOps or Levy — as leaders of these companies, a big chunk of our deal flow is through the “ecosystems” of AO/Levy.
  • However, being an AO/Levy customer doesn’t guarantee an investment, and investments aren’t limited to those customer bases, either.
  • Early or Mid stage companies that serve and accelerate the startup ecosystem (i.e., companies creating best-in-class solutions to startup building: operations, eng / product, and GTM).

About the GPs

In our angel investing days spanning 2013-2021, we invested in

  • 70+ early-stage rounds and
  • 30+ late-stage rounds / secondaries

We were Seed / Series A investors in Gingko Bioworks, Relativity Space, Notion, Checkr, BetterUp, Mercury, Human Interest, Rippling, and On Deck. We've also served as startup founders and execs many times over, so we understand that journey better than most!

We hope to bring that track record to bear to build a fund — and most importantly, to do whatever is in our power to enable entrepreneurs, with a spirit of service.

How We Invest

We don't do pitch calls; we do brainstorming calls.

So, we'll do a 25-40 minute call that might look a little different:

  • 5-10 mins of mutual context on you + what you're building
  • 2-3 minutes of context on the round
  • The rest of the call is brainstorming product strategy, GTM strategy, or whatever else you want. Pick any topic that is a burning issue, that you'd like to talk through.

Why do we do it this way?

If we've done our job — whether or not we invest — you'll a) feel excited, not drained coming out of the call, and b) have additional feedback, ideas, connections, or other food for thought.

At the end of the call, we'll commit (or not) on the spot, as long as we feel you:

  1. Are a thoughtful person / team who can execute credibly
  2. Working on a viable, scalable problem
  3. Have >6 months of runway after the in-progress raise

We typically invest $10-20K. When we have unique insight into a space based on our areas of expertise, we might do $50-100K, but this is relatively rare. We know these are small checks in today's market, but we hope you consider the call a joy, not a chore; and we think we're high {help} / {$ invested} 😄.
